Did you ever take a look at your Moodle front page and thought: "This looks bad, lame textual category names everywhere, it's so boring" ?
You can change that easily and add some appropriate images instead of dull category names.
- turn on Include topic section (see here how - don't forget to turn off displaying old categories list)
- create or update Label in topic section on the front page
- create or download some fancy icons, web is full of them (search www.iconarchive.com, use www.iconfinder.net, www.webappers.com has nice selections or just Google it :-) )
- add icons into created Label
- place them into html table or use css to position them correctly
- select icon and Insert weblink with url to selected category to it
- save changes

I have been trying to make our category and course listings look better. This is a great way, however do you know how to do this for the "Course Categories" page? We force our users to use My Moodle so they do not see the front page. When they search courses they have to go to Course Categories page and it lists ALL the courses!
Imho there is no easy way, only to dig into source code and make changes there. But maybe some reader solved this problem.
Do you know where I can find anymore moodle front pages? The ones you showed are fine, but I'd like to see more examples.

P.S. I'm curious, but are you overall happy with moodle? Do you think that it offers a "fun" learning environment, or do you think that it's more efficient?
Hi drezac, you can check http://moodle.org/sites/ and look for "cool" sites, there you should find some nice examples.
And to second question, yes, I am overall happy with Moodle. I am working with it for some years, still find it a great piece of software. I know there are some quirks, but overall it is system worth taking a look and investing some time to learn basics.
